Once again the past week had a lot in store...
The increasingly popular Revolver on Tuesday night was this week in full flow, with packs of T shirt clad students running wild around the city centre! Well, not quite, but a good night was certainly had by all those who got involved this week and said no to a conventional Tuesday night. Kicking off in Barracuda the party flowed across the street to neighbouring Revolution for a night of cheap drinks and great music.
Wednesday saw one of the best ‘student’ DJ’s around at the minute grace the decks of Tower @ Asylum. Playing some of his favourite songs and biggest mixes, Jonny Mac once again showed that if you’re a student, Wednesday night is the night to get your drink on. Boasting to be the messiest night of the student week, fans were obviously left far from disappointed.
Thursday saw the Animal Freestlye Mountain Bike team come to Hull Universtiy to display their imense skills. If you were luck enough to be passing by on the day you will agree that it was an amazing show! And of course the night time boasted the standard weely great nights at [W]elly club, Pozition and Sugarmill.

Friday saw one of the biggest events of the new term’s calendar at Asylum with the return of Radio One and MTV legend, Zane Lowe. Ignoring the norm and the usual, Zane once again played his favourite mash-ups, mixes and party-starting classics forcing pretty much the whole club onto the dance floor. It’s for this attitude that Zane is taking on a much loved persona for his no-nonsense style of playing the tunes he likes and not what society expects! As for those who were there, you can testify to the lightning atmosphere.... I’m sure he will be back again soon!
Although not a busy one, Friday also boasted a great set from the exciting Kid British, a quartet of singer/songwriters taking influences from garage, RnB, soul, jazz, reggae and a whole other raft of genres. With singles available to download from iTunes, they’re definitely worth checking out for the future.
A characteristically boisterous Saturday night saw venues right across the city welcome floods of partiers ready to sample the weekend’s delights after a hard week’s work. The Jonny Mac bar particularly boasted an epic music selection from the University's Crystal Clear Society! If you havn't been in here on a Saturday maybe next week will be the one...
Monday saw the city’s football team take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in a Premier League crunch encounter. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they went behind just before half-time with a predatory header from Cottager’s hitman Bobby Zamora before a second half tap-in from Diomansy Kamara sealed the points for the London outfit.
For all those wishing to drown their footballing sorrows, and for scores of others just after a great night, Sugarmill’s ‘Skool’s Out’ night saw a packed out edition of the popular student night, with some classic school outfits from the lads and some typically revealing numbers from the girls! The theme, always reliable, proved to be a great success and there were more than one or two sore heads in and around Hull come Tuesday morning.
As always, we were at all the events so make sure you have a look at the pictures to see if there is an event that you’re missing out on and hopefully we might see you there next week!
